Made in collaboration with BBC Creative, ‘The Tapestry’ is the launch film for the BBC’s 2018 FIFA World cup marketing campaign. Working with The London Embroidery Studio, the team have modernised a traditional tapestry technique by creating a dynamic film in which every single frame has been individually embroidered, creating over 600 unique tapestries.
Blending embroidery expertise and digitising skills, the film vibrantly showcases a wealth of colour palettes and gradients, alternating thread textures and unique stitch patterns. This intricately animated work looks to the past and future, journeying through World Cup history, and previewing the most exciting talent coming up at this year’s finals.
‘History Will Be Made’...
The collaboration between La Monnaie de Paris and Jean-Paul Gaultier had started with the creation of 12 coins inspired by the city of Marseille. It goes on with a new collection, this time dedicated to the city of Paris. The promotional films for these collections around France are signed by Hugo Ramirez and Eddy.
For this project, the director’s main inspiration was the movie Soy Cuba, which became iconic for it’s long and bold sequence-shots.
Through flight-over effects, we follow the chase of Jean-Paul Gaultier’s iconic ‘Man’ and ‘Woman’, from indoor to outdoor decors and from one historical landmark to the other. Olivier Lescot, animation supervisor at Brunch Studio, succeeds in using 2D animation techniques to give a sense of complete freedom while dealing with a complex subject.
The graphic universe has once again been created by the illustrator Leïla Courtillon, with the input of Jean-Paul Gaultier for the details in clothing and particularly the woman’s corset. The pop-style soundtrack was composed by musician Spock. This campaign is conceived by the agency La Chose.

A one-of-a-kind transatlantic collaboration between Elliot and Yves Geleyn, the Bear and The Hare has become one of the best loved Christmas commercials of recent years. Created by placing 2d cutouts of the characters into real sets and then animating in-camera, this groundbreaking film used techniques that hadn’t ever been tried on this scale. The results are breathtaking; Aaron Blaise’s (The Lion King, Pocahontas) character designs spring to life under Elliot’s direction. A film to warm even the coldest heart.
